The governor made the disclosure during a live media chat with a select Kaduna-based broadcast-journalists, which was aired in all radio stations in Kaduna for two hours.

‘’I intend to finish my Ph.D programme this year. If I can’t, I will return to Maastricht University, based in the Netherlands, to complete it, ‘’ he added.

It will be recalled that El-Rufai has been a part-time PhD student of Philosophy in Governance and Policy Analysis at United Nations University-Merit, Netherlands, since 2017.

The governor who said that he is not interested in any public office in 2023, said that he will ultimately write another book, return to his professional practice and continue life as a private citizen.

‘’I got a lot of money from my first book, so I intend to write another one so as to augment my pension as former governor. In Kaduna state, the pension of an ex-governor is about N700,000,’’ he disclosed.

El-Rufai said that having become minister at the age of 43, he doesn’t think that he should return to the federal cabinet at 63, adding that ‘’I’m tired, I need to give chance to younger people to contribute their own quota.’’

According to the governor, there are smart, energetic and patriotic young people around who have worked with him and should be given the chance to become ministers.

He said that as a leader, ‘’if you don’t train or mentor people who can succeed you, then you have failed. If I become a minister at 63, what will my children do?’’
