Igwe assumed duty a few days after a senior government official was kidnapped on Wednesday night in the Bwari suburb of the FCT, not far from the home of six sisters who were abducted for ransom last month with their father. One of the girls was shot dead.

Elsewhere, two girls were also recently kidnapped in the Chikakorie area of Kubwa. Their abductors demanded ransom for their release.

But addressing senior officers of the command in his maiden meeting, he urged them to be dutiful and to wake up to their responsibilities as his administration would have zero tolerance for laxity.

He said his administration would be characterised by nothing short of policing in line with best global practices, respect for fundamental human rights, visibility policing and  proactive approach to security challenges in the territory.

He also urged people of the territory to continue working with the police on intelligence gathering and other areas that might help strengthen peace and security framework in the territory.
