Arsenal and England forward Bukayo Saka has won the Socrates Award in recognition of his efforts to improve the lives of people in communities beyond football.
Saka received the honour at the Ballon d’Or ceremony after Nigerian music star Burna Boy presented the award, which recognises footballers for their social impact and humanitarian contributions.
During the ceremony, Saka shared the story of a 12-year-old boy from a village in Rwanda who received support from the BigShoe charity to help him cope with sight loss.
The story highlighted the impact of initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable children through access to essential support and care.
Expressing his gratitude after receiving the award, Saka said: “It’s an honour to receive this award, on behalf of all the children we have been able to help, thank you.”
The Socrates Award recognises football personalities who use their influence and resources to make a positive difference in society, highlighting the importance of social responsibility beyond achievements on the pitch.
