The Nigeria Senior Women’s Basketball head coach, Rena Wakama, has invited 15 players for the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifying tournament in Belgium.
This was made known in a post by the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), on it’s X handle.
Regina Donanu of MFM Basketball Club and Nigerian Customs’ Nkem Akaraiwe are the only based professionals called up.
Foreign based players include Promise Amukamara (Dynamo K., Russia), Alimat Abiola (EX Arkanases, USA), Ifunanya Okoro, (Tintastoll, Iceland), Sarah Ogoke(Womens United, USA), Tomi Taiwo, (EX Tou, USA) Elizabeth Balogun (Bembibre, Spain), Amy Okonkwo (St. Amand Hainaut Bt., France) and Adebola Adeyeye (CO Trith BasketPDH, France).
Others are Nicole Enabosi (Toulouse Basket, France), Murjanatu Musa (Celta Zorka , Spain), Daemi Kunayi-Akpanah (Campobasso, Italy), Lauren Ebo (Turgutlu, Italy) and Blessing Ejiofor (Nice, France).
Some notable names were missing including Victoria Mcauley, Ezinne Kalu and Adaora Elonu.
Nigeria is up against Senegal, USA and hosts Belgium in Group A of the qualifiers which dunks off from 8 to 11 of February.
D’Tigress begin their campaign against fellow Africans, Senegal, before facing USA and then hosts, Belgium in their final game.
