Traders in Eziukwu Road Market, Aba, Abia State business hub have scaled up their self-monitoring on fake and counterfeit products in and around the market.

At a prayer session in the market to mark the beginning of 2024 business year, the Interim Management Committee of the market vowed to hand over suspected dealers in such products to the appropriate authorities.

The move followed a memorandum of understanding the committee entered into with the National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control last year to flush out suspected dealers of such products from the market.

The agency had for days during the period raided the market and sealed-up no fewer than 200 shops and business premises over alleged engagement in production and sale of fake and counterfeit products.

In his sermon, the officiating minister, Rev Chidi Okoroafor cautioned the traders on the choices they make, warning that some choices could either make or mar them and future members of their family.

“The choices you make now in your business and other activities will surely come to affect you and your family members either negatively and positively in life,” the cleric added.

Speaking at the session, the chairman of the committee, Alphonsus Udeigbo harped on the need for the traders to conduct their businesses in strict compliance with the terms of the understanding.

Udeigbo, who is also the chairman of all chairmen of Aba markets, appealed to the traders to continue to support Governor Alex Otti in his determination to serve the people better.

In his comments, the chairperson of the market prayer network, Lambert Alaneme warned that there will be no room in the market for those engaged in questionable business activities.

One of the high points of the session, which was the fourth, was the distribution of palliatives items to some widows in the market by the committee.
