Ani stated that the bodies of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital mortuary while others are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The commander however did not confirm to LEADERSHIP the cause of the accident and warned drivers against overspending, reckless driving, drunk driving and others that can cause road accident.

Some of the residents who spoke to LEADERSHIP said that the accident happened at about 11am and attributed the accident to over speeding, reckless driving and called for the erection of speed breakers along the Onueke axis of the federal road.

Mr Chinedu Okafor said, “We have lost a lot if lives along this axis of the road and most times the accident is caused by over speeding especially on the part of commercial drivers and truck drivers. There is no month an accident will not occur along the axis.

“I am calling on the Ministry of Works to construct speed breakers along the axis of the road. To the best of my knowledge, that will curb the incessant fatal road accidents that occurs along the axis.
