The Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has commenced the distribution of teaching and learning materials to primary schools across the 11 local governments areas of Gombe state.
This initiative is one of the measures undertaken by the Inuwa Yahaya-led administration to improve the provision of quality education at the elementary level.
Presenting the items at one of the benefitting schools, Hassan Central Primary and Secondary School Gombe,  the SUBEB Overseer and Board Secretary, Haj. Fatima Umar Abubakar, explained that this phase of the distribution focuses on pupils from primary one to three to ensure that both students and teachers are provided with essential items to enhance teaching and learning for remarkable outcomes.
“You may be aware that His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya CON, had in 2019 proclaimed a state of emergency in education. Since this declaration, he has been committed to ensuring that pupils, students, and their teachers have access to all the essential materials required for effective teaching and learning, aiming for favorable outcomes each term. In this phase, our focus is on pupils from primary one to three, aligning with the Governor’s philosophy of providing these children with a solid foundation to empower them for future success”, she said.
She further explained that the items distributed to the benefiting schools across the 11 local governments include textbooks, exercise books, writing materials, school bags, record books, chalks and sets of skills kits totalling 571,360 items for the non-formal education system, while 394,600 items were distributed for formal education respectively.
“His Excellency, the Governor, recognizes the importance of both formal and informal education systems. Therefore, he has directed that both systems benefit from this initiative. That’s why we are distributing textbooks, exercise books, writing materials, school bags, record books, chalks, and sets of skills kits totaling 571,360 items for the non-formal education system, and 394,600 for the formal system”, she added.
