Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State chapter has disowned opinions expressed by its former speakers of the state House of Assembly on the performance of the Alex Otti administration.

Speaking one after the other, during a visit to Otti last Friday, PDP members of the conference had joined their colleagues to extoll and throw their weight behind the Labour Party (LP) administration.

The main opposition party members were the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Ude Oko Chukwu, Christopher Enweremadu, and Chikwendu Kalu, who served during the past three administrations.

Vice chairman and acting publicity secretary of the chapter, Abraham Amah stated this in a statement issued in Umuahia, the state capital while reacting to the opinions.

“We state, in very clear terms, that the PDP members who went to visit the governor and the statements credited to them were made in their personal capacities and do not represent our views,” the statement said.

“The chapter duly recognises their rights to freedom of association as guaranteed by the different declarations on Human Rights at the international, national and local levels,” it added.

Amah said the conference, which includes members of the All Progressives Congress made a similar visit to a PDP governor a few weeks ago and also endorsed the performance of his administration.

The acting image maker, therefore, used the opportunity to dispel media reports that the PDP members were planning to defect to the LP, adding that there was no iota of truth in the report.

He assured members of the chapter and their supporters that the PDP is intact and unshakable, blaming the report on “people who made unsuccessful attempts to pull down the PDP in the past”.

The report surfaced after the conference accompanied Otti to inspect ongoing road projects in Aba by the administration which was interpretated as prelude to defection.
