The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated food and non-food items to victims of the fire disaster that razed down about 20 tents at an internally displaced persons camp in Rundabin-Shuwa on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis.

LEADERSHIP Sunday reports that the fire disaster rendered about 100 persons homeless with one person reportedly dying of shock after the incident.
The IDPs were taking refuge at the camp following the emergence of Boko Haram insurgency that has consumed thousands of lives and rendered millions homeless.

The coordinator, NEDC Bauchi State, Bashir Ibrahim said the donated items were meant to provide intermediate succour to the victims and give them a sense of belonging.
He said items donated to the victims include a hundred blankets, 25 mats, bags of rice, cooking oil, children’s clothes, wrappers, clothes, bags of sugar, pasta, among others.

Leader of the camp, Bulama Gujja, expressed gratitude to the NEDC for coming to their aid at this critical time, adding that the items would bring relief to the victims.
He promised to ensure equitable distribution of the items to the intended beneficiaries.
