Set Up IDP Camp For Vulnerable Persons ln Okuama Community – Urhobo Youths

Youth wing of Urhobo Nation has called on the three tiers of government to set up Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp to cater for the vulnerable persons from Okuama community in Delta state following the tension arising from the killing of soldiers on peace mission.

Ethnic Youth President of Urhobo Nation, Dr Kelly-Efemena Umukoro, made the plea in Asaba at the weekend while commiserating with the families of the gallant troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion who were killed while on peace mission to Okuoma community.

He said there should be room to enable facilitation of aids to the needed population adding that their death was not enough to turn blind eyes to civilian casualties.

He described the incident as unfortunate, especially the decision of the Senate to turn down the request for humanitarian services to the communities.

He called for the institution of a high-powered panel to thoroughly investigate the remote and immediate causes of the blood-bath in the community, especially those that were mentioned.

 

According to him, “Okuama community is in a worrisome situation. What is the plight of women and children in that agrarian community? Do they still have their right to freedom in such a situation under armed conflicts?

 

“Women and children are left vulnerable and this is our own concern. We are calling on the local, state and federal governments to send relief materials to the vulnerable in that area.

 

“Innocent people are suffering. Rights of civilians are not respected. The deaths were as a result of the negligence of the authorities. It is like the federal government is empowering our neighbors to subdue us. Are they trying to annex us?

 

“We are being deprived of surveillance and amnesty positions. As youth leaders we will continue to condemn any step taken against Urhobo nation. Our neighbours are constantly used to subdue us, oppress us and fool us.”

 

The group called on the appropriate bodies as a matter of urgency to investigate and bring to book all those involved in the heinous crime.
