13th African Games: Sports Minister Man Of His Words Declares Athletes

Nigerian athletes taking part at the about to be concluded 13th African Games in Ghana has given kudos to the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh describing him as a man of his words.

An elated athlete Favour Agbero (Weight lifter) caught on camera could not hide his joy when he said, “ the minister is a man of his words, athletes have started receiving their alerts as promised by the Minister, he is indeed a man of his words”.

Recall that the gave his words and appealed to the athletes  to trust the process and that it was not going to be business  as usual,adding that all their dues will be paid to the last kobo.

The  Sports Minister held a meeting with all members of Team Nigeria in Ghana for the 13th African Games comprising Athletes , secretaries of Federations, Sports administrators , staff of the ministry, Sports writers on the 10th of March 2024 , at the Limman Hall of Lagon University where the Games village is situated and appealed to the athletes to give their best.

During the meeting, the Minister said : “No athlete would be shortchanged, trust the process , you will be paid your due under my watch as Minister of Sports “.

Keeping to his words, the S. A media to the minister Diana Mary Nsan confirmed in a chat that, “today the 22nd of March , the Athletes started receiving their Camp allowances. Athletes who have won medals will also get bonuses”.

She gave bonuses for individual medal winners , doubles, team sports and coaches as follows: “for Individual sports, bonuses for Gold -$3000, Silver-$2000, Bronze-$1000. For Doubles sports, Gold-$5000, Silver-$3000, Bronze-$1500 and for Team(upto 6) Gold -$6000, Silver-$4000, Bronze-$3000.

“For Team sports (upto 12 and above), Gold-$12000, Silver-$7000, Bronze -$5000 while Coaches are expected to get Gold-$5000, Silver-$2500 and Bronze-$1500”.

She also disclosed that the Judo athlete Ibrahim Abdullahi who suffered a Cardiac arrest has been discharged while his travel plans back to Nigeria have been concluded by the Minister based on medical advise, adding that “a dedicated team will take him back to his hometown In Kano Nigeria where post discharge medical follow up will be handled”.

Nigeria finished second on the medal table behind Egypt.
