The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has fortified places of worship, critical installations and as well deployed human and material resources across the nooks and crannies of the territory to ensure safety of residents during the Easter celebration.
Spokesperson of the Command, CSC Idoko Samuel, stated via a statement on Tuesday, that the Commandant, Mr. Olusola Odumosu, ordered the deployment of 5,230 personnel.
Samuel noted that the deployment, which consists of all intelligence and tactical assets at the Command’s disposal, was borne out of the need to curb security challenges rocking the nation’s capital as well as an impending threats.
Odumosu, while addressing Principal Officers in Abuja said due to the intelligence received of a possible attack this season in the FCT, the Command has deployed covert personnel for surveillance and intelligence gathering to foil such planned attack.
The Command, according to him, has also deployed all special squads such as the Armed Squad, Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Crack Squad (Operation Adaka-su) and Agro Rangers to ensure the maintenance of law and order.
He consequently assured FCT residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that they have a safe and peaceful environment during the Easter celebration period and beyond.
Odumosu enjoined residents to embrace peace in the spirit of the festivity as they join Christian faithful across the world in the celebration.
“The corps is committed to ensuring the safety of critical national assets as well as the lives and property of residents of FCT,” he said.
The Commandant also charged senior officers from all units and formations of the Command on the operation order, and to ensure that no stone is left unturned as they discharge their duties in tandem with global best practices and respect for human rights.
