Senator representing Kaduna South senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, has asked Muslims to have a sober reflection on Nigeria as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.

Katung, in a statement he signed, said the lessons of Ramadan should guide the Muslim Ummah in his constituency.

“Let me on this special day rejoice with our Muslim brethren in Kaduna South Senatorial District, Kaduna State and Nigeria as they join other faithful across the globe to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the successful completion of the Ramadan Fast.

“Ramadan is indeed, a month of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and devotion to Allah. It is considered the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, as it is believed that the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, (peace be unto him) during this month.

“I urge us all to have a sober reflection on the state of our nation, as we mark this year’s Sallah. Though the challenges confronting our country look intimidating, I am optimistic that with unity of purpose, we will surmount them.

“Therefore, selfless sacrifice and communal love as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Ishmael, should guide us, as we submit ourselves to the Will of Allah.

“Let us continue to practice the lesson of tolerance, perseverance, and love for our neighbours that we learned during the Ramadan. Let us also learn to always follow the path of dialogue in resolving our differences rather than advocating for violence,” Katung added.

He said, “We must all understand that our strength as a people revolves around our diversity. Hence, we must do all that we can to ensure that we manage this diversity to build a strong, economically viable, politically stable and prosperous Nigeria. May I remind us that the essence of the celebration of Eid is about sacrifice, love, and hope for a peaceful coexistence in our dear senatorial district, the state and the country in general.”
