The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has commended the Proprietor and Management of the North Eastern University, (Formerly Pen Resource University) Gombe for complementing his administration’s efforts in the area of educational development.
The Governor who met with the institution’s management, described NEU’s facilities as state-of-the-art and capable of aiding academic excellence.
Represented by his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Governor explained that education is one of the key areas of concentration in view of its importance to development of other sectors, and stressed that he will stop at nothing to ensure providing the people with quality education for sustainable socio- economic development.
He charged the university authority to emphasise development especially in the area of herbal medicine since Gombe is blessed with abundant vegetation which are used in producing drugs.
” I have been following the developments in the university and I see it going beyond a North Eastern University but a University of Nigeria. I was fascinated by the centre of African Medicinal Research. If we are to continue to import our drugs a lot of our patients will die. I have always stressed this point that, we need to come back home and explore our natural endowments. We have all types of plants that can be used for medicines and the drugs manufactured locally shall be much affordable for our people”.

He called on all and sundry to find ways of contributing to the collective progress of the generality of the people, the state and Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, the founder of the University, Dr. Sani Jauro who is also the Pro- Chancellor, appreciated the concern of the governor and his deputy for the institution.
While expressing gratitude to the government delegation for taking time to visit and inspect the school facilities, Dr. Jauro informed them that the school was going to write a report of the visit containing their appeals for assistance from the government.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Yusuph Amuda Yahaya noted that the administration has passion for education and development that is why the governor surrounded himself with great men of academic excellence, including the Deputy Governor and the Secretary to the State Government.
He asserted that it was their plan and intention that before the next ten years the University would have been number one in Nigeria.
Presenting an overview of the University, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sani Mohammed Isiyaka, explained that the institution started in 2022 as Pen Resource University and now changed to North Eastern University.
He said the University has now over eight hundred students, over one hundred teaching staff, a state of the art facilities, twenty seven under graduate programmes and, four faculties.
The team was later led on inspection to the facilities in the school where the deputy governor and the other guests marvelled at the high quality standard of facilities and learning and teaching environment.
