Tension is now heightening among the people of the acclaimed Igbo ancestral community, Nri in Anaocha local government area of Anambra State over an alleged plot to delist name of a kindred in the area.

Chairman and secretary of the affected kindred, Umuanuta kindred of Uruoji village, Nri, Messrs John Jideobi and Emma Nwonwu in a statement they jointly signed on behalf of their kindred association, Umuanuta Uruoji Peoples Assembly, also accused the people of hatching plans to create a new village in the community.

They claimed in a statement issued to newsmen in Awka that historically, Nri community is made up of six villages: Agbadana, Uruoji, Obegu, Uruofolo, Diodo, and, Ekwenaanyika but added that those plotting to distort the historical kindred and village composition of the community have added the name of another village to the community.

They alleged that the alteration in the historical kindred and village composition of the acclaimed Igbo ancestral community was contained in pages 155 to 164 of a publication titled “Omenana Na Odinana Nri” in which Umuanuta kindred of Uruoji village, Nri was allegedly “conspicuously and mischievously not mentioned as a kindred of Uruoji village.”

The aggrieved Umuanuta kindred also accused the authors of the publication of creating a new village in the community which they allegedly named “Anuta.”

The Umuanuta kindred, however, said that since the matter is still before a court, they would prefer not to make further comments on the matter until the court delivers judgment on the issue.
