Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State have arrested a 19-year-old boy, Jamiu Akande for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl at the Pakata area of Ilorin, the state capital.

A statement by the NSCDC spokesman in the state, Ayoola Michael said the director of Child Unit of the state Ministry of Women Affairs, Alhaja Mariam Yusuf reported the incident at the agency’s office in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He explained that the ministry took the decision to report the case to the NSCDC following a distress call from Babareke House, Ipata Oloje area, Ilorin.

“Without delay, the command swiftly responded and apprehended the suspect after painstaking efforts by officers of the command, “ the statement added.

The spokesman said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect frequently visited the victim’s residence under the guise of seeing his friend, thereby gaining access to the victim.
