Kolo Wins 2024 IBB Captain’s Cup, Eulogise Outgoing Captain, Obaleye

The much publicized 2024 IBB International Golf and Country Club Captain’s Cup tournament came to a thrilling climax at the weekend, with Architect Mathew Stephen Kolo emerging the overall winner of the week-long event.

Architect Kolo defeated all comers to emerge the overall champion of the IBB Captain Cup tournament in honour of the outgoing Captain of the club, Dr Banjo Obaleye.

Kolo carded 66 nett to win the 18-hole tournament that featured a field of over 500 golfers.

The handicap 18 amateur golfer played a cumulative score of 84 gross and 66 nett to beat other top contestants on count-back.

An excited Kolo attributed his victory to consistent hard work and commitment. “I’m an architect, I started playing golf about three to four years ago and gradually have been developing from then till now.

“I have won trophies with kitties within the club, but this is the first major trophy for me, and of course I’m excited, happy about it, but it is more of a call to do more, basically to go back and work harder, improve my game and see where it takes me to,” Kolo said.

He described the outgoing captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Dr Banjo Obaleye as an accomplished and astute professional that should be emulated.

“The exco that Captain Banjo Obaleye basically led had a vision on how to improve the club status, the games and so far so good they have achieved a lot of that. As a person, basically he is focused, accomplished and I see him as an astute professional to emulate.”

Several former captains and lady captains of the club were also at hand to celebrate with Obaleye as he set to bow out after 12 month of impactful service to the club.

AA Agib carded 71 to defeat Olalere Olakunle in the Best Gross Men, while Grace Agbo and Farida Wada led the Best Gross Women.

In the Men Pros category, Andrew Odoh beat Godwin Okoko to the runner-up nett, while Racheal Danjuma beat fellow Police Officer Amina Wilfred to the Ladies Pros prize.

Tunde Ogundare wins Guest trophies men just as the Lady Guest trophy went to Rose Nyam.

The celebrant and outgoing captain, Dr Banjo Obaleye, applauded the planning committee for organizing a befitting and memorable event for him and the club. He charged the members to involve youth development plans in the activities of the club to help Nigerian young talents achieve their desired goals and objectives.
