Unitrust Insurance Company Limited has said its recent certification by the International Organisation for Standardisation(ISO) will enhance stakeholders’ confidence in its operations.
The certification, which is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 standard , is regarded as the world-renowned best standard for information security management systems (ISMS).
To this end, Adedoyin Odunfa, who is the founder/ CEO, Digital Jewel Africa which is the only ISO27001: 9001 consulting firm in Africa, presented the ISO certificate to the insurance firm at its headquarters in Victoria Island(VI), Lagos at the weekend.
Speaking on this development, the managing director/CEO of the company, Adedayo Arowojolu, said, the certification attests to its firm’s commitment to protecting its customers’ information and setting a benchmark for excellence in the country’s insurance sector.
To him, “after going through the whole exercise, we have come to discover that when you are talking about information management systems, it has to do with the entire processes of the organisation, business practices, products and services, and how you manage information and your staff.”
Stating that the process to the certification was tedious, he added that this certificate gave confidence that will add value to its operations, saying,” it looks at the entire team of our operations. It looks at people and compliance.
When we talk about compliance, it is not only about regulatory compliance, but how the company is fairing; it looks at the way we handle our contracts! which certified and further validated that our processes are world standard.”
Disclosing that cost management is one of the key metrics of the certification, he noted that the company has done this remarkably well by using its resources judiciously to get high values.
For any organisation today, cost management is very key, especially, at this time when the macro economic environment is not giving us the level of comfort that we want, he said. “The certification has validated that, if a crisis should happen today, we have processes and controls in place that will make this organisation’s business to be sustained,” he stressed.
Noting that the ISO certification gives confidence that a global organisation has accessed and certified the insurer fit for purposes, he added that,,“ they have looked at our books, our business processes and they have confidence that the way we run our businesses nothing will happen to our brand for a very long time.”
While making the presentation, founder/ CEO, Digital Jewel Africa, Adedoyin Odunfa, urged Unitrust Insurance to continuously improve the system through regular audits, reviews and updates.
(ISO) 27001:2022, she said, is a standard that consists of management processes and controls that helps organisations to be able to put in place specific controls targeted at the entire information system flow across the organisation.
These controls address risks that are inherent in the system and they help you to manage them judiciously, she noted.
Unitrust’s ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is a world-renowned best standard for information security management systems (ISMS) and it defines the requirements an ISMS must meet to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve an information security management system.
