Bauchi Wins UNICEF $400, 000 Healthcare Award

Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed delight with the emergence of Bauchi as the second most improved state in Northeast under the Primary Healthcare leadership challenge with an award of $400, 000.

The governor said the award has underscored his administration’s commitment to transforming the generality of the people of Bauchi State.

To this end, Mohammed reiterated his commitment to fulfilling all government’s obligations and payment of counterpart funds including Primary Health Care Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) contributions and non-MoU counterpart funds.

Governor Mohammed who was speaking while receiving the Bauchi UNICEF Chief of Field Office, Dr. Tushar Rane during a courtesy call at Government House, Bauchi, yesterday, said that the UNICEF visit has further demonstrated government’s commitment to bolster a stronger partnership with UNICEF to provide a high quality and effective health care services to the people of Bauchi State.

The governor added, “Furthermore, the State Government under my leadership has remain committed to the Abuja declaration by allocating 15% and above of the total State Budget allocation to the Health Sector”.

He also announced the approval for the enrollment of all civil servants in the state for the health insurance scheme, while the government has since commenced release of funds to the agency to ensure a vibrant and healthy workforce that will drive the implementation of various state programmes and policies.

He recalled that the state government has recruited over 1600 health workers and approved employment of 100 doctors to man the various health facilities, as well as re-introduced pre-service scheme to support students studying different health related courses, with the hope that, they will come back on graduation to work for Bauchi State.
