The Gateway International Church (GIC) has donated food items and cash gifts to widows and other less-privileged persons in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

GIC is one of the leading and impactful religious organisations with its headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Speaking during the presentation of the food items and cash, lead pastor of the church, Pastor George Izunwa, said the gesture was part of the benevolence programme organised by GIC to cushion the effects of the economic hardship in the society.

Izunwa stated that the gesture was also aimed at rendering some form of assistance to the downtrodden in society, especially members of church.

He said that the church decided to render some assistance to some widows in the church, who could be struggling to provide food for their children after the demise of their husbands.

The cleric stated that the benevolence was categorised into three, mainly the widows, single mothers, businessmen and students from Ada-George axis of Port Harcourt, whose parents cannot afford their school fees.

Izunwa further stated that the benevolence programme would henceforth be organised by the church on monthly basis.

Also speaking, the executive pastor of the church, Pastor Mathew Ogara, said that what the church was giving to the beneficiaries was just a token, especially to those who are into one form of business or the other and prayed that that token would multiply in their hands.
