The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has successfully repatriated another set of 155 stranded Nigerians from Libya on Tuesday, as part of its ongoing voluntary repatriation program aimed at aiding distressed migrants.

The returnees included 29 males, 111 females, 11 children, and four infants.

This was disclosed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) through a post on its X handle (formerly Twitter) @nemanigeria.

The flight, operated by Al Buraq Air on a Boeing 737-800 plane with registration number 5A-DMG, landed at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, at approximately 5:55pm.

NEMA wrote, “The profiles of the returnees indicate that 29 males, 111 females, 11 children, and four infants were aboard, all expressing joy and relief at returning home.”

Upon arrival, the returnees were welcomed by officials from NEMA, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Refugee Commission, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigeria Port Health Services (NPHS). The organisations were working together to facilitate a smooth reintegration for the returnees.

The operation reflects an ongoing commitment by IOM and the Nigerian government to assist Nigerian nationals in challenging situations abroad.

Recall that last September, a similar initiative helped another group of 155 migrants return safely under comparable circumstances.

“The consistent efforts of IOM alongside the Federal Government have been crucial in bringing our nationals back safely,” remarked a NEMA spokesperson.
