The University of Abuja branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has explained why it embarked on an indefinite strike.

The union announced its decision to embark on strike Thursday following its congress held at the permanent site of the institution.

Chairman of the branch, Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh, in an interview with LEADERSHIP Weekend, said the strike was in response to unresolved issues such as the university’s refusal to conduct elections for the office of the deans of faculties and Provost College of Health Sciences.

It also accused the university of carrying out promotion of some staff without following due process.

Other reasons for the strike, according to the union include advertorial of the vacancy of the post of vice chancellor without following due process as well as removal of ASUU University of Abuja from shareholders and members of board of directors of the university’s Micro Finance Bank and massive employment of staff without following due process.
