Ahead of the next population census in the country, Tsafe local government area of Zamfara State has commenced the process of establishing a database to register its citizens.
This was disclosed by the sole administrator of the local government, Dr. Aliyu Adamu Barmo while speaking with journalists on the progress made by his administration so far.
The Senate in February 2024 assured that the federal government would hold the population and housing census in November this year.
Dr Barmo said already the LGA leadership had developed an online registration of indigenous persons, while noting that a comprehensive database that will facilitate the NPC’s officials’ job during the November exercise would be completed soon.
He said aside the population census, the database would provide the council accurate information that would enable it to plan for the effective delivery of public services to its people.
Barmo also disclosed that the council leadership had been able to reduce bandit attacks through intelligence gathering and sharing with security agencies to handle early warning signs of any threat so that such can be averted immediately.
According to him, the effort has led to reduction of criminal elements and reducing their activities particularly on the Funtua/Tsafe highway which was hitherto one of the red spots in the state.
He said the council had also established a quarterly scorecard initiative to enable the people measure progress, track achievements, and enhance accountability in project implementation throughout the area. He added that the council had also supported 880 rural farmers with agricultural inputs and improved seedlings, as well as distributed food items and feeds to over 5,000 families.
