The Palestinian militant group, Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire in the ongoing armed conflict between the group and the State of Israel following the threat to invade Rafah by the Israeli Defence Force, (IDF).

The ceasefire deal for Gaza was brokered by Qatari and Egyptian mediators following threat to invade the Rafah City by the IDF.

Recall that the Israeli military had earlier issued a directive for residents of the city to move out in preparation for the planned invasion.

There are however, no specific terms of what Hamas reportedly agreed to, and still unclear whether Israel will accept the deal.

Israel has ordered about 100,000 Palestinians to leave Eastern Rafah ahead of a “limited” military operation.

The Israeli military said the invasion is not a wide-scale evacuation as it told evacuees to seek refuge in tent cities in Khan Younis and al-Mawasi.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden reiterated his clear position on Rafah” in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the White House said.

Israeli described as necessary the assault on Rafah as a measure to defeat Hamas which has made the city the refuge of its fleeing militants.

War began between the two parties when Hamas fighters attacked Israel on 7 October, killing about 1,200 people and abducting 252 hostages.

Israel then declared a total war on Hamas and this has resulted in the killing of about 34,700 people, according to figures from Hamas.
