The Special Assistant to the Minister of Works on Northern Affairs, Suleiman Liba has assured Nigerians in the North that the minister, Engr David Umahi is committed to total infrastructural development across the country.
Liba during a chat with newsmen Tuesday, dismissed the narrative painted by some persons that development works under the Ministry has not gotten to the North.
He said, “I listened to one of my elder brothers from the North claiming that the Honorable Minister has not visited any part of the North on a working visit let alone having the interest of the North at heart. I want to speak emphatically that these assertions are wrong and does not portray the current reality.”
He explained that the Minister on assuming office, first visited the North-Central State of Kogi to inspect state of the roads before proceeding to the Abuja – Kaduna highway and then to the North – Western states of Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi, as parts of the earliest states he visited.
“Recently he was in Benue state and some massive road projects are already going on, the North – East is where the Minister have in his plans to visit very soon.
“I understand that criticism is part of every working system but only if they are constructive. Let’s always get facts right before running to the media, the Hon. Minister of Works is one of the most detribalized Nigerian. He is a man who wants everything and everyone to be alright irrespective.
“He is a field person who is always on site to inspect projects himself, as a civil engineer that he is, I can’t remember Nigeria ever having a Minister of Works who is so up and doing Like Engr Dave Umahi, such a man should be allowed to concentrate on his job so as to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
He urged everyone to exercise patience, saying that the minister means well for the North. “Let’s know that roads in the South are far more dilapidated than roads in North and probably requires a more urgent attention, but I assure you that the Minister will make us all proud,” he assured.
