Measles: Adamawa Govt Monitors Closure Of Schools

Adamawa State government has embarked on the monitoring of private and public schools to ensure compliance with its closure of schools directive to mitigate the spread of the measles outbreak in the state.

The team which visited some schools discovered that academic activities were in progress at Aliyu Mustapha Academy, and Condodia College and ordered their immediate shutdown.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Aisha Umar, said the exercise was to ensure that the students were immunised against the disease.

Umar warned that the state government would not hesitate to sanction any school that defies the directive.

She said, “Unfortunately, some of the schools visited didn’t comply with the order. The government would not hesitate to seal non-complying schools by tomorrow.”

The management of Kingdom Heritage Model School and Col. Isa Ahmed Memorial School complied with the order.

The disease surveillance and monitoring officer in the Ministry of Health, Abduljalal Abubakar, said the closure and monitoring of schools was to curb the spread of the disease.

Abubakar said the state has 25 active cases without any causality.
