Social Watch Anti-drug Abuse Advocacy of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has embarked on a statewide campaign against drug peddling, consumption, cultism and other social vices in Abia State.

The group announced that the campaign will be organised with vigour and relentlessly in both primary and secondary schools, communities, and churches.
At Umukabia Primary School in Umuahia North local government, the regional commander of the group, Chris Iheukwumere said the campaign was overdue.

He expressed concerns over the rising cases of crime, criminality, cultism and other social vices across the country, which he blamed on drug and substance abuse.

While assuring of the continued collaboration of the group with the agency, Iheukwumere appealed for the cooperation of everybody to make the state drug-abuse-free.
The pastor, therefore, used the forum to urge parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against the dangers of drug abuse in their interest and future.

He appreciated the worldwide director of the group, Ugochukwu Chijioke for its establishment, assuring that the members would not compromise on the campaign.
The commander, who extolled the present administration in the state for the ongoing socioeconomic developments, solicited its support in logistics for easy movement.

In her address, earlier, the state commander of the group, Amarachi Chukwuma assured of the commitment of the members to take the campaign across the state.

Responding, the representative of the head teacher of the school, Catherine Onwukwa noted the dangers of drug abuse, adding that it had become unbearable.

Onwukwa, who welcomed the group and its mission, lamented that drug abusers had converted the school premises into their meeting centre and also vandalized some of the property.
