Osun Residents Jittery Over Monkeypox Infection

Osun residents are now jittery, following reports of the dreaded Monkeypox infection in the state.

The state commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu who confirmed that he was aware of a case reported at the state general hospital said the patient has been referred to the medical specialists that would carry out laboratory diagnosis on him.

According to him, “There are suspected cases of monkeypox which have not been confirmed. We have taken samples for testing in a laboratory. Until, results of the diagnoses are out, we cannot confirm nor comment on the matter for now.
“There was one recorded at Atakunmonsa in the last two weeks and one on Monday. We have embarked on a sensitisation programme to educate the citizens on monkeypox”.
It was gathered that a case of monkeypox was said to have been recorded in Iperindo town, the headquarters of Atakumosa East local government five days ago.
The Iperindo discovery was said to have sent fear into the spine of residents of the area.
However, at the general hospital in Osogbo, no fewer than three medical personnel confirmed to our reporter that, suspected case of the disease was reported in the hospital on Monday morning.
The victim, a 14-year-old boy with Monkey pox symptoms was brought to the hospital where medical experts from the Disease Surveillance Notification Unit attended to him medically, the source hinted.
