Sequel to the recent farmers and herders clash in the Kwali community in Gwada District, Shiroro local government area of Niger State, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa has urged the people to support the ban on open grazing.

Senator Musa, who represents Niger East Senatorial District in the National Assembly made the call when he went with the state government delegation on a sympathy visit to the people of Kwali community over the clash.

While describing the clash as unfortunate, he said the only way to find a lasting solution to the problems was to support them against open grazing.

He lamented that the clash of farmers and herders is coming at a time, that the state government is expending huge amounts in tackling the nefarious activities of bandits in the state.

He, therefore, urged both parties to maintain peace, adding that no meaningful development can be achieved without peace.

The senator said the governor has created the Ministry of Pastoral and Nomadic Affairs and urged farmers and herders to use it by reporting their cases for further action.

The commissioner for nomadic affairs, Umar Rebe Sanda, called for tolerance for peace to reign even as he said the ministry has set up committees at local levels to mediate on such issues and revert to the ministry.

Some farmers and herders had clashed in Kwali, where several people were killed.
