The Federal Government of Nigeria has addressed claims that Binance Executive Tigran Gambaryan was being held in unsavoury prison conditions in the country and that his health was deteriorating.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in a statement issued to journalists in Abuja on Friday, stated that the allegations were false and should be ignored.

He reiterated that Gambaryan was being held in lawful detention and has access to quality medical care whenever required, adding that the suspect also has full access to consular services from his home government.

The Minister emphasised that the Nigerian government will not jeopardise Gambaryan’s fundamental rights to a lawful trial and quality care, including healthcare, as he undergoes trial under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Idris reiterated that his detention was court-ordered, and only the court can alter the terms or direct his release.

He stressed that the Federal Government of Nigeria will continue to follow due process in its quest to bring Binance to justice—a legitimate sovereign quest similarly pursued in several other countries around the world.

He stated that this adherence to legal and diplomatic standards underscores Nigeria’s dedication to upholding justice and maintaining the integrity of its judicial processes.

Idris said the crypto trading platform’s executive was being treated with the utmost fairness, and his legal and human rights were being protected throughout the judicial proceedings.
