The president of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr Habu Gumel has received the report of the constitution review committee set up to review and alterations in the provisions of the National Olympic body’s constitution.

The report was presented to the NOC president yesterday at the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) office in Jahi, Abuja, barely four months after he constituted a 6-man committee headed by a legal luminary, Hussaini Garun-Gabbas (SAN).

Speaking shortly after receiving the report, Gumel thanked the committee for the job well done and assured all of his executive committee commitment to study the recommendations made by the committee,

“Mr Chairman, thank you for the job well done, you have done a good job. We gave you the assignment and you have completed it within the time frame given to you. Now, the executive committee will look at the report, the board members and General Assembly will look at it as well before submitting it to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to also look at it and when it is finally approved, we will make the copies available to all stakeholders,” Gumel said.

Earlier, chairman of the committee, Hussaini Garun-Gabbas (SAN) thanked the NOC President and his executive committee members for the confidence they have in them.

“I do not intend to dive into what our findings are, that will be left for the NEC members to do,” Gabbas said.

“We wish to sincerely thank the president and members of his executive committee for the confident response in us and we must say that we garnered a lot of experience from this exercise and we have put in our best to ensure that we deliver a good report to the NOC,” Gabbas said.

The NOC boss also received the report of a review of the Refurbishment of Sports Infrastructure at the Amuwo Odofin Olympic Sports Village in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, yesterday and pledged to critically study the report and analyse it to ensure justice is done to the land.

“We’ll look at the report critically, analyse it to make sure we do justice to the report so that at the end once we are convinced and the developers are convinced too, we sign an agreement to develop the land because we really want to develop it. It is very important to us to develop the land because it is long overdue. It is now the right time to develop the land and I believe we are going to do it. ”

“Mr Chairman, we are grateful for what you have done, it is a very nice report and I assure you we are going to work it without wasting any time and it is part of legacies NOC would like to leave behind.”
