Newly appointed Kano State police commissioner Salman Dogo Garba has promised to treat all parties, irrespective of their inclinations, as Nigerians and ensure professionalism and fairness in his job.

The commissioner stated this at a maiden press conference yesterday at the Police Headquarters, Bompai, during the question-and-answer session.

“On the current issue, I will not treat anyone based on where he belongs, I will treat everyone as a Nigerian,” he stated.

Garba is the 46th police commissioner in Kano and has just resumed work. He promised to build on what his predecessor, AIG Husain Gumel, started, especially in community policing.

With Kano currently in the headlines, the CP outlined some measures he had mapped out to ensure a peace in the state.

“To achieve this, we have mapped out strategies to ensure a peaceful Kano State as follows: robust community policing engagements, synergy with other security agencies and community stakeholders, use of technology in investigations and operations, professionalism and accountability and strategic communication in public enlightenment and sensitization,” he stated.

“I assumed duty at a time when the state is the talk of the day and is confronted with a spate of security challenges, including the resurgence of thuggery (Daba) activities in some parts of Kano Metropolis.

“We have already developed an action plan that revolved around collaborative policing after carefully studying the trend of the crime pattern,” he added.

Garba called on the government and people of Kano State to join hands with the police to ensure the effective security of the state.

“To the government and the law-abiding people of Kano State, I believe that no stand-alone agency can claim the monopoly of effective security,” he said.

He therefore pleaded for the support, assistance, and cooperation of the people so that they can work closely together to address security concerns, foster partnerships, and build trust because the issue of security is a collective responsibility.

“The command will remain committed to ensuring that policing services are community-oriented, citizens-centered, responsive, and transparent. We need the cooperation of all to succeed in this regard,” he declared.
