The newly elected chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Bauchi State chapter, Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf Adam, has assured the Bauchi State government that the association would work assiduously to ensure security and harmonious relationship between farmers and herders in the state.

Alhaji Kabiru made the assurance immediately after his election as state chairman of the association, saying that his election would serve as a bridge between the government and people to make livestock production a big revenue earner for the state by imbibing modern livestock production systems.

He said he and other executives are out to work 24 hours a day to make Bauchi State a big livestock hub in the country, noting that Bauchi used to have the biggest meat factory in the country. “It’s our desire to revive such enterprise if the pastoralists work hand-in-hand with government in producing healthy animals,” he added.

He however appealed to the state government to desilt all the silted earth dams to enable pastoralists to use them in the dry season to reduce their movement to other states.

Kabiru said one of the challenges faced by pastoralists is the lack of water and fodder in the dry season and tackling the problem will enhance livestock production.

He said the relative peace being enjoyed in the state is attributed to the proactive steps taken by the state governor, Senator Bala Mohammad.

He, therefore, urged the state government to invest more in security with which nothing productive can be achieved.
