Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has approved the payment of the sum one billion naira as gratuity to retirees in the state.

A statement by the Special Adviser, Media to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode and made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Friday, said the move was part of government’s efforts to offset the backlog of outstanding gratuities.

“The payment is in fulfillment of the Governor’s promise to prioritise welfare and wellbeing of workers and pensioners in the state, as well as his pledge to put in place an arrangement to offset backlog of gratuities owed by previous administrations,” Oyobode said.

Governor Oyebanji urged the senior citizens in the state to remain calm and be optimistic, pledging government’s commitment to prioritising their welfare, having contributed to the development of the state during their active years.
