Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s special adviser political, Alhaji Mohammed Nma Kolo, has posited that the ongoing agricultural revolution in the state is poised to feed the nation.

Nma Kolo who spoke to select journalists yesterday in Minna said the agricultural revolution was aimed at restoring the lost glory of Niger as one of the food baskets of Nigeria.

He said, “It is not a hidden fact that we have been the food basket of Nigeria and the hub of agriculture in the country; the former governor’s vision and mission is to make sure that all the people of the state adequately feed themselves and sell the surplus to other parts of the country.”

“Even as of now, any house you go to in Niger, you will get rice, yam, cassava or other food items, grown for personal consumption,” he claimed.

While commending the federal government for sending trailers of rice to the states, he said the governor took the gauntlet to improve production and was not waiting for the federal government’s palliatives.

On the recent Supreme Court’s judgement on local government autonomy, the aide said, “We welcome it. But, we are studying the judgement, and after that, the states will come out with their position,” adding that “But, it is noteworthy there is a very cordial relationship between the two tiers of government here in Niger, and it will be sustained.”
