Jigawa Strengthens Private Investment For Sustainable Growth

Under the 12-Point Agenda of Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, it was clearly stipulated that supporting private investment through an enabling environment and ease-of-doing-business policies is one of the key tools for building the state’s economy.
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) was also identified as another means of attracting foreign and local investors to achieve sustainable growth.
In his continued commitment to pursuing and actualising the agenda into practical, results-oriented outcomes, the state government signed a $10 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian company Srinivasa Farms Private Limited to establish a chicken hatchery in the state.
The journey towards achieving this MoU began last year with a visit by Jigawa officials to India, followed by a return visit by officials of Srinivasa Farms Limited to Jigawa for a field assessment.
This MoU was one of the numerous Public-Private Partnership investments signed by the Jigawa State Government and other partners for setting up businesses in the state.
Under the MoU for the establishment of the modern chicken hatchery company, the Jigawa State Government will own 40 per cent of the shares, while the Indian firm will retain 60 per cent.
The establishment of the company is part of the government’s strategic effort to reposition poultry farming for food security, job creation and youth empowerment in the state.
According to the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, the Jigawa agricultural policy is fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to leverage the sector to strengthen the local economy and ensure sustainable food security.
“The establishment of this factory will be a game changer in Jigawa poultry farming, as it is expected to bring an end to the years of struggle by our poultry farmers to get quality chickens and access to other modern techniques of poultry farming.”
In addition to the supply of quality chickens, the MoU will include disease surveillance, monitoring, and medical and technical advice on poultry management, disease control, and quality assurance.
Under the MoU, the hatchery company will supply chickens beyond Jigawa State once it fully takes off, as it is designed to expand over time in response to demand.
In his comments after signing the MoU, Governor Umar Namadi stated that the modern hatchery would be the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria.
The governor expressed confidence that the project would be a game-changer for the poultry industry, not only in Jigawa State and Northern Nigeria but across the country.
“I am sure the establishment of this facility will empower a good number of our people, particularly poultry farmers.
“The company will empower smallholder farmers, helping them to grow and establish sustainable businesses. With this joint venture, I believe the poultry industry will thrive in Jigawa State, Insha Allah,” Governor Namadi stated.
In his remarks, the Vice President of Srinivasa Farms Private Limited, Mr Senthil Kumar Krishnan, who signed the MoU on behalf of his company, said Jigawa had all the potential required to be one of the leading poultry farming states in Nigeria and that, with the partnership, the journey would be inspiring and promising for all partners.
He assured the Jigawa State Government of his company’s commitment to bringing in all the experts and expertise in accordance with the MoU to ensure the lasting success of the partnership.
Governor Namadi had recently commissioned multi-million-naira investment facilities established by ALREN Construction Company in Dutse, the state capital.
The facilities, comprising an asphalt plant, a concrete batching plant, and a precast plant, represent an investment of approximately ₦3.5 billion and are expected to improve local access to construction materials, reduce sourcing challenges for contractors, and stimulate economic activity across Jigawa State.
Governor Namadi described ALREN Construction Company as a reliable partner in improving Jigawa State’s public infrastructure.
According to him, the ALREN investment aligned with his administration’s 12-Point Agenda, particularly its focus on private-sector partnership, employment generation and economic expansion.
“One of our 12-Point Agenda items is in action today in this place. That is a partnership with the private sector to generate employment and increase economic activities in Jigawa State,” he said.
The governor said the facilities would provide indigenous contractors, particularly small-scale operators, with easier access to asphalt and other essential construction materials without having to travel outside the state to procure them.
According to Governor Namadi, the availability of these materials within Jigawa would reduce operational difficulties for local contractors, strengthen their capacity to execute projects and support the growth of indigenous businesses in the construction industry.
“Our indigenous small contractors in Jigawa State will now have no reason to travel outside Jigawa State to get asphalt for the work they are doing.”
The governor described the investment as an example of how private-sector participation could complement government efforts to expand economic opportunities, strengthen local enterprises and create sustainable employment.
He said the facilities had already employed 265 people, all of them indigenes of Jigawa State, adding that the company’s chairman had pledged to increase the workforce at the facilities to 500 by the first quarter of 2027.
“The Jigawa State Government will continue to work with ALREN because they are a very good partner to the state.”
In his remarks, the Managing Director of ALREN Construction Company, Engr. Salim El Ters said the investment was designed to strengthen the company’s operational capacity, support construction development and create employment opportunities.
Our main concern today is to strengthen our capacity to support construction development and create valuable employment opportunities,” he said.
Engr. El Ters disclosed that the company planned to increase its overall workforce from 935 to approximately 1,170 employees, with about 30 per cent of the additional employees expected to be recruited from Jigawa State.
On 30 January 2026, Governor Namadi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a solar power panel production and assembly plant in the state.
The agreement involves an investment of over £5.5 million, with the state owning 45 per cent and private investors initially holding 51 per cent. The project has multiple components and strong potential for future expansion.
Before this agreement, similar agreements were signed in 2025 with various companies to boost power generation and distribution in the state. These partners included the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
Under the MoU signed with KEDCO, Jigawa State agreed to increase its share from 7.5 per cent to 10 per cent, with over 70 per cent of this commitment already paid.
The MoU with KEDCO aimed to support the company’s recapitalisation and improve power distribution in Jigawa and beyond.
The recent flurry of Public-Private Partnership agreements signed by the Jigawa State Government, spanning agriculture, construction and energy, demonstrates a clear and deliberate strategy to transform the state’s economy through private-sector collaboration.
The PPP model is an economic plan designed to foster collaboration between the government and private investors. It is particularly suited for establishing companies or industries that require strong backing due to the significant demands and risks involved.
From the $10 million poultry hatchery with Srinivasa Farms to the ₦3.5 billion construction facilities by ALREN and the £5.5 million solar panel plant, these investments reflect a consistent commitment to Governor Namadi’s 12-Point Agenda. By creating an enabling environment for business and attracting both foreign and local investors, Jigawa State is positioning itself as a model for sustainable economic growth in Northern Nigeria.
If these partnerships are nurtured and sustained, they hold the promise of not only boosting the state’s economy but also improving the livelihoods of thousands of its citizens for years to come.
