Gunmen Kill 18 In Benue Village

Police in Benue State said yesterday that 18 farmers were killed in Mbacher community of Katsina-Ala local government area by gunmen suspected to be local bandits on Friday night.

Police spokesperson,  Catherine Anene said, “The attack in Kastina-Ala is confirmed. Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing as normalcy has returned in the area. Details will get to you as soon as the police on ground sends report.”

A local source who pleased anonymity told our correspondent that the bandits who defied the curfew imposed by the state government when a similar event happened at Chito market in Ukum said the gunmen invaded the community on Friday about 11 pm and opened fire, killing 18 on the spot.

He said many others who ran into the bush for safety sustained injuries while some were still missing.

Governor Hyacinth Alia recently imposed a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am in the Sankera axis  which comprises Katsina-Ala, Ukum and Logo.

 

The council chairman,  Justine Shaku, said the bandits had concluded their operations before the military got to the scene.
