The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Edo State gubernatorial election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, yesterday, blamed bad governance in the country on Nigerians who always vote the wrong people into office after collecting money during elections.

He stated this while addressing Progressive Youths in Edo State during an interactive session in Benin City.

Okpebholo, while promising to change the narratives for good, declared, “We are going to provide practical governance. We are going to turn Edo State into a construction site,” he said.

He told the youths to choose between darkness and light and elect a man they could trust to carry out good governance, saying, “The ball is in your court, your progress is in your hands, your tomorrow is in your hands.”

The APC candidate, who told his life story at the event, said, “If really we need Edo of our dream, we need to make a sacrifice,” pointing out that Governor Godwin Obaseki’s failure has provided him with the manifesto to provide good education, good healthcare, tackle insecurity, provide industries and employment for the people of the state.

Okpebholo announced a scholarship award to two youths at the event, and one million naira support with an additional N100,000 monthly stipend to a woman reportedly sacked from the state service for supporting him.

Besides, he promised to pay lecturers of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) backlogs of salaries owed them and restore the institution to its lost glory if elected governor.

Earlier, a leader of the party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, had stated that youths were the engine room of election because they are the ones who mobilise, vote and defend the votes, lamenting that after elections, they are usually forgotten.
