The lady captain of IBB International Golf and Country Club, Dame Julie Okah, has emphasized the need to encourage children to embrace the golf game for their all-around personal development.

Okah stated this yesterday in Abuja during the closing ceremony of the 16th Children’s Golf Development Clinic, an annual event organised by the club to brush up children’s skills in the golfing game.

She noted that golf is a great way to get kids excited about being outside and nurturing mental, emotional, and social skills that will prepare them for life.

The sport, according to her, provides a safe environment for kids to be physically active while still challenging them and helping them grow.

“We have 134 students coming to take part in the exercise of the children’s golf development clinic, which is a yearly program. Their experiences have been very good, they’ve learnt how to play golf, they’ve learnt how to play bunker shot, learnt basic skills of golfing and they have advanced in the game because they have been playing for quite a while and some of them are also beginners. If you’d like your child to try other sports or physical activities in the future, golf will prepare them for success. This gentle, non-contact sport will help kids get used to movement, rules, and equipment management,” she said.

She called on parents and guardians to encourage their children to partake in the sport.

Also speaking, Dr James Agbohesi, the vice captain of the club, representing the captain, Mr Ibrahim Babayo, said the ladies section of IBB golf and country club have over the years maintained a tradition of helping children to learn the basics of golf and this is done during the holidays to catch them young.

“They have done so well in the recent past, this year is exceptional because of the number of children that are participating, they have done well, the children and the ladies section in particular.”
