The Jigawa State governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has told protesters against hunger in th State that only Allah has the power to impoverish or enrich anyone.

The governor spoke in a broadcast on Thurday night against the backdrop of looting and destruction of public and private properties in the State by hoodlums masquerading as #EndBadGovernance protesters, emphasising that the current government was not responsible for their economic predicament.

“As Muslims, we believe that there’s nobody in this world that can put hardship on you, only Allah (SWT), and there’s nobody that can rescue you from that hardship. Therefore, protest is not a solution and it will not be a solution,” Governor Namadi declared.

He added, “We realise that this is how people use young boys to achieve their objective of vandalising and stealing people’s property. This is not part of our culture and it is not part of our tradition.”

LEADERSHIP reports that the ongoing protests, dubbed ’10 Days of Rage,’ which started on August 1, have seen significant participation from citizens across various cities.

However, the demonstrations have been marred by disruptions, including hijacking by hoodlums in states like Kano, Borno, Kaduna, Gombe and Yobe. In response, some states have imposed 24-hour curfew to curb the unrest.

However, in Benue and Kogi States, heavy security presence resulted in residents largely avoiding the protests as there have been tragic reports of deaths in some parts of the country.

The participation on the second day of the protest has notably decreased compared to the first day, according to reports.
