Politicians Now Buying PVCs –CSO

A civil society organization, the Inter-faith Mediation Centre on Community Initiative to Promote Peace (CIPP) has said some politicians are now buying Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) from vulnerable people.

It revealed this at its monthly forum on community initiative to promote peace in Kaduna.

In a communique signed by its data officer, Rev. Michael Ikpa, Eric John from Kaduna Youth Peace Network, Bernard Musa Ghat, Conflict Mitigation Management Regional Council, Muhammad Zakariyya, Community Peace Observers and Ibrahima Yakubu from the media, the group called on eligible voters to desist from selling their voters’ cards to politicians because of hunger and poverty.

They also called on citizens of the state to shun ethnic and religious inclinations that polarise and instigate hate and disunity among them.
The group urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that they conduct free, fair and credible elections which will be acceptable by all.
“INEC should also ensure the transmission of election results electronically in accordance with the 2022 amended electoral Act,” it said.
The group urged religious leaders not to use their sermons to preach disunity during, before and after the elections, so as not to cause division among the citizens.

They urged stakeholders in the state and the nation to sensitise citizens, particularly youths against involvement in political thuggery before, during and after the general elections.
