In response to widespread protests against bad governance in Nigeria, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra State, has urged President Bola Tinubu to implement swift and creative solutions to address the nation’s current challenges.

Okonkwo, acknowledging the severe economic hardships faced by Nigerians, emphasised the need for immediate action. “I appreciate his acknowledgement that he has heard Nigerians loud and clear,” Okonkwo stated, referring to President Tinubu’s recent address.
“He should proceed now to persuade Nigerians better by tested actions that will mitigate these afflictions decisively and sustainably.”

The lawmaker, known for his youth advocacy, in a statment by his consultant mdia adviser, Collins Steve Ugwu highlighted the depth of the crisis, noting the transformation of Nigerians from the “happiest people in Africa” to a population struggling under severe economic strain.

He attributed this decline to leadership failures and lack of vision over the past decade.
While endorsing citizens’ right to peaceful protest, Okonkwo called for maturity and restraint, especially among the youth.

He also appealed to security agencies to treat protestors with empathy and respect, focusing on protecting legitimate dissent while addressing criminal elements.

Okonkwo stressed the urgency for government action, stating, “The hard truth is significant, that actions are the only wheels that bring results.”

He advised the President to address issues of nepotism, reduce the cost of governance, and engage more directly with the needs of all Nigerians.

The representative also warned against attempts to exploit the situation for ethnic attacks, particularly against people from the South East.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining peace for national development and prosperity.
