FIFA has suspended the implementation of Folarin Balogun’s match ban for one year, allowing the forward to remain eligible for selection under the governing body’s disciplinary rules.

In a statement, FIFA said the decision was taken in accordance with Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which permits the suspension of certain sanctions during a probationary period.

“In line with Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the implementation of the match suspension is suspended for a probationary period of one year,” FIFA said.

The world football governing body added that the suspended sanction would be activated if Balogun commits another offence of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period.

“If Folarin Balogun commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension shall be revoked and the sanction enforced without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement,” the statement added.

The ruling means Balogun remains available for selection, provided he does not breach the conditions attached to the suspended sanction over the next 12 months.
