Jaiye Kuti Blasts Nollywood Colleagues Over Lack of Genuine Love and Support

Nollywood actress Jaiye Kuti, popularly known as Jayeola Monje, has criticised what she described as the absence of genuine love and support among colleagues in the movie industry.

Speaking during an interview on Oyinmomo TV, the actress said relationships within Nollywood have deteriorated because many practitioners are battling the same challenges but choose to remain silent instead of standing together.

According to her, many people pretend everything is fine even though they know the industry’s problems.

Recalling her own experience, Jaiye said she received little or no support from fellow actors when she publicly complained that her movie had been removed from several cinemas. She said none of her colleagues spoke up or stood by her despite facing similar struggles themselves.

The actress also accused some colleagues of showing only superficial affection, noting that while many are quick to send birthday wishes, they disappear when genuine support is needed.

“So I stopped wishing people happy birthday because I don’t want anyone to wish me one. Please don’t,” she said.

Jaiye further highlighted the financial realities of filmmaking, saying many people underestimate the enormous cost of producing and distributing movies, as well as the difficulty producers face in recovering their investments.
