4 Passengers Not 11 Died In Egbelu Mbutu Accident – FRSC

Four passengers not 11 died in the road accident that occured on Sunday afternoon at Egbelu Mbutu by Cherubim Busstop, along Port Harcourt – Enugu Expressway in Abia State.

A viral media report in the evening, which put the casualty figure at 11 including two babies said the accident involved a Sienna commercial bus belonging to Abia Line Transport Company Ltd.

The confirmation was made by the state’s sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ngozi Ezeoma in her office, yesterday in the state capital, Umuahia, adding that four others were injured.
he said: “The accident occurred when a moving commercial Toyota Previa SUV with registration number BKL 291 ZJ travelling from Enugu rammed into an unnumbered stationary Mack Truck.”

According to her, “A rescue team from RS9.32 KM78 Aba Unit Command of the corps arrived the scene within 10 minutes of notice of the accident to conduct rescue operations.

“Initial investigation revealed that the cause of the crash was fatigue and loss of control. The injured were taken to the nearest hospital and the dead deposited at the nearest morgue.”

According to the commander, a child that survived the accident had been handed over to the police for custody.
