Barring any last minute change, first vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi will declare his intention to run for the presidency of the football body today in Abuja.

The news of the Lagos State FA chairman’s declaration for the NFF plum job had been on for a long time, but LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that Akinwunmi will declare his intention to succeed Amaju Pinnick as NFF President in form of a cocktail on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

Akinwunmi, who has described the forthcoming NFF elections as not a do or die affair is seen by many stakeholders as a perfect candidate to help reposition Nigeria’s football and restore the country’s glory in the round leather games.

While speaking in Abuja recently at the declaration of another aspirant and  former NFF’s General Secretary, Musa Amadu, Akinwunmi, insisted that football remains a family affair and that whoever emerges as the NFF helmsman must maintain the family tradition synonymous with football.

“We have an election in a few weeks’ time, and it is not do or die,” Akinwunmi said. “It is not about the region you are representing but the interest of all. It is only left in Nigeria that binds us together and let us leave it that way.”
