The Republic of Korea (ROK) has committed the sum of $1 million to the International Committee on Red Cross, ICRC, to support the mitigation against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in North-Eastern Nigeria.

The Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency KIM Pankyu, on Wednesday stated at the meeting with his counterpart of the ICRC that Korea is deeply committed to supporting global efforts to combat gender-based violence.

He also mentioned that this contribution to the ICRC is a testament to Korea‘s dedication to alleviating suffering and making a tangible impact in communities facing adversity.

The grant by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and addressing pressing global issues.

Given the existing collaboration between the Republic of Korea, and the ICRC, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nigeria, which already committed $4 million to the ICRC for the purpose of supporting Primary Healthcare Centres in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.

This additional funding will enable the ICRC to bolster its initiatives aimed at mitigating the impact of gender-based violence in one of Nigeria‘s most vulnerable regions where people are severely affected by conflict and displacement.

This programme includes providing essential support and services to survivors, medical and psychological support, legal assistance, and community outreach activities. Additionally, the initiative aims to enhance local capacities and foster resilience within affected communities.
