A new Chief Imam was installed in Ogbomoso town, Oyo State on Friday.

Sheikh Habeeb Ayilara, the new Chief Imam, who was appointed by the League of Imams and Alfas of Ogbomoso and other Muslim leaders, was approved by the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III.

The turbaning ceremony took place at the Abata section of the Soun’s palace at Ojagbo area of the city.

Sheikh Habeeb Ayilara, who has been the choice of the Imam Ayilara family of Ogbomoso, whose turn it is to produce the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, was turbaned in the presence of a large population of Muslims in the town, including the Parakoyi of Ogbomosoland, Alhaji Sirajudeen Aleem; Oyo North Senator, Fatai Buhari, who was represented by Alhaji Yekinni Woleola, and other Muslim leaders in the ancient city.

However, the Parakoyi of Ogbomoso noted that the new Chief Imam would serve the Soun of Ogbomoso’s Palace for now pending when the court will eventually determine the fate of the embattled Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Sheikh Teliat Yunus Ayilara, who has been having a running battle with a section of the Ayilara family and the Soun’s Palace.

Alhaji Aleem noted that since the issue of Sheikh Teliat was still pending in court, they won’t act contrary to the subsisting court order.
