Arsenal look to have bagged a steal with the loan of Raheem Sterling thanks to favourable terms negotiated with Chelsea.
Arsenal will only pay a fraction of Sterling’s wages during his loan at the Emirates Stadium, with parent club Chelsea continuing to pick up the rest of the financial burden. According to The Athletic, the Gunners will contribute “significantly less than half” of Sterling’s contracted salary, which can surely be considered a sweet deal given the player’s record and experience.
Sterling’s Chelsea contract is rumoured to be worth between £300,000 and £350,000 ($394,000 – $460,000) per week. Not only are Arsenal paying a relative pittance to have a four-time Premier League champion boost their squad, Chelsea are paying through the nose just to be rid of him.
Sterling has been with Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and now Arsenal during his career to date, contnuing to tick off the Premier League’s biggest clubs. There had been talk of a shock Manchester United move prior to joining the Gunners too.
Sterling’s Arsenal debut will have to wait until after the September international break due to his arrival missing the matchday registration deadline to play this weekend. But it gives him two weeks to settle into a new environment and could mean his first appearance is in the north London derby on September 15.
