A group, the Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE), is soliciting support from public and private sector firms, non-governmental organisations(NGOs), and wealthy Nigerians to help victims of the devastating Borno flood in Borno State.

The flood occurred after heavy rainfall, during which rivers overflowed and drainage channels and roads flooded, destroying houses, farmlands, and properties worth billions of Naira.

In a statement signed by its president, Comrade Femi Oyewale, and made available to LEADERSHIP  Friday, NASRE extended its condolences to the Borno state government, stakeholders, and residents who have been severely affected by the flooding, which has disrupted economic activities and displaced numerous families.

The group emphasised the association’s solidarity with the people of Borno. The statement also highlighted the contributions of the association’s Grand Patron, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd.), commending his efforts in promoting Borno’s development.

“We stand in solidarity with the government and people of Borno, particularly our esteemed Grand Patron, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd.), who, along with others, has made significant contributions to elevating Borno to its position as one of Nigeria’s leading states,” the group said.

While emphasising the need for more support, he said: “We urge individuals, institutions, and the international community, including relevant agencies and NGOs, to offer additional support to Borno State and its people during this difficult time.”

The association lauded the federal government’s prompt response, including the visit by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas, even as NASRE acknowledged the relief efforts provided by both state and federal authorities to help mitigate the impact of the disaster.
